Prusa i3 Mk2 Clone 3D Printer
This project is an addition to my EPQ that I built during my A-Levels when I was 16/17.
This project allowed me to learn a lot about additive manufacturing machines and how important precision is if you want clean prints. Whilst I did make some mistakes within this project, I have since learnt from them and have a greater understanding for how to design and plan out a project to be completed effectively within the deadlines given.
Since building this machine I have learnt a lot about the controlling similar styles of machines with linear movement. I have also bought myself a Creality Ender 3, that I have since used for hundreds of hours and learnt how to maintain and care for it so that it is kept as reliable as the day it came out the box. The knowledge that I have gained from this project and the use of my Ender 3 allowed me to be confident enough in my ability that I decided to build a CNC machine from scratch in my 2nd year university flat, this project can be viewed here.
In the future I would like to build another 3D printer from scratch that is a Core-XY printer, as I have seen first hand how quick and accurate they are at printing and I believe it would be a good addition to my collection.
3D printer fully setup and operational.
1st attempt at printing a 3D Benchy failed.
2nd attempted at printing a 3D Benchy which finished but still had an issue with under extrusion
3rd attempt at 0.3mm layer height which resulted in a nice print but still an under extrusion issue between layers.
4th attempt with a 0,25mm layer height which gave me adequate results to start printing battery holders.
